One of the things that I love about New Orleans is the abundance of rich musical talent that is everywhere … you just never know where it is going to pop up. Everyone knows that amazing grooves ooze from the crevices of every bar and nightclub in the city, and the talent that greets you on most every street corner in the French Quarter is unrivaled. But its not every day that grammy-nominated musicians show up and play at your Sunday mass. Well, actually, every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. mass at St. Francis Xavier in Metairie, an amazing group of musicians who make up the contemporary choir led by Jamie Diliberto, do show up and share their musical gifts with the congregation. And among that congregation happens to be legendary blues guitarist and singer, Bryan Lee. Last week, after 6:00 p.m. mass, Bryan joined the group and gave a concert to benefit the Deacon Ed Food Bank. The sound was nothing short of … well … amazing! The outpouring of sharing and love was truly uplifting and left no doubt that the spirit was among them. AND, let’s just say that if Bryan should ever choose to recount that rendition of the Lord’s Prayer at every Sunday mass, they’d have to build a bigger church. Can I get an Amen?! Thank you Bryan Lee, and all of the musicians of the contemporary choir for sharing your time, talent and voices, to bring so much joy into the lives of others.
