Fabulous, Fun Fête at Margaret Place // Doug + Stephen, Married

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.” – Justice Anthony Kennedy

I’ve heard these words read many times before, and they always touch me with how special they are.  But I can honestly say that I’ve never felt more strongly about two people becoming something greater than once they were than I do about Doug and Stephen. The love and energy that fills the room when these two are present is absolutely electric! Their love for one another is undeniable and the love that all of their family and friends hold for them is palpable.  It was an absolute honor to be a part of their celebration at Margaret Place. Wishing you two so, so many years of continued joy and happiness!

Intimate Halloween Celebration // Emily + Jerod, Married

We ended October with yet another beautiful Halloween masquerade wedding celebration at House of Broel.  Emily and Jerod had the ideal intimate gathering of their closest friends and family and it made for the perfect celebration.  When we say “tiny wedding, big love”, this is exactly what we are talking about! Weddings don’t have to be huge to be fabulous, they just need the perfect mix of loving partners and your closest loved ones to be near and share in your joy!  Congratulations to Emily and Jerod, and wishing you so many years of love ahead!

Halloween Masquerade Wedding at House of Broel // Jessica + Chad, Married

New Orleans at Halloween time has an undeniable mystique all unto its own.  Add in a beautiful Victorian mansion, and an entire krewe of guests donning masks and total black attire, and you’ve got the perfect setting for a Halloween masquerade wedding!  Jessica and Chad kicked off Halloween weekend by tying the knot in New Orleans with their closest friends and family in tow! The House of Broel set the perfect vibe for this elegant, spooky soiree.  The bride was hauntingly beautiful as she stepped out in her gown from Bliss Bridal.  After cocktails, dinner and a little dancing, the celebration wrapped up with a festive second line parade down St. Charles Avenue, and by all accounts, a great time was had by all.  Congrats to the brand new Bowmans, and many years of happiness!

A Marvel-ous Superhero Themed Elopement in New Orleans // Laura + Pete, Married

I met Laura at a photography conference too many years ago to remember exactly when.  She subsequently began to visit New Orleans and I knew that she had fallen in love with the city and it’s charm.  So when she fell in love with Pete, a/k/a Spidey, and decided to get married in New Orleans, it wasn’t a huge surprise! I know I’ve espoused this sentiment more than once on this blog, but it is always an honor when a fellow photographer chooses you to shoot their wedding.  I was delighted to share some of my favorite tiny wedding tips with Laura, and within a short amount of time, she pulled together an adorable wedding celebration that lept right from the pages of the groom’s favorite Marvel Comic series, Spiderman!  We started the day at sunrise, because we wanted to capture that sweet morning light.  And a plus to shooting early in the morning is that you can have the French Quarter mostly to yourself.  It took a little juggling and maneuvering, but we managed to manipulate our way around Laura and Pete so that they didn’t see one another while they were getting ready, and while we documented all of their awesome details.

Once Laura and Pete were ready, we took them to the courtyard of the Royal Sonesta to capture their first look.  They could barely contain their excitement!  And then we were off for one of the most exciting parts of a New Orleans elopement, the portrait session.  Couples always ask us for a portrait session featuring “New Orleans” as the backdrop, and that is so easy to do with the beautiful, natural scenery that the city has to offer.  We generally recommend that the couple schedules time into their day to capture this during a French Quarter “walkabout”, or if they want to cover more ground, we suggest renting pedicabs.  With the bride and groom in one pedicab, and Steve and me in another, we can quickly whisk around from place to place, and capture some gorgeous portraits in some of your favorite spots … or we can show you some of our faves!

It was right about here when I learned that love that is stronger than love that lasts 4-ever, is 5-ever.  And with that new knowledge, we once again hopped in the pedicabs and made our way to Jackson Square because it was time to get married.  The wedding took place right in front of St. Louis Cathedral.  It was brief, but heartfelt.  After signing licenses, the new Mr. & Mrs. were met by Kinfolk Brass Band for a traditional New Orleans Second line.  I get asked all the time if it’s possible to have a second line with just a couple of people, and the answer is a resounding yes!!  Hire the band, have a tiny second line, and dance your way into 5-ever!  Congratulations Laura + Pete on your marvelous New Orleans elopement.  We wish you many, many years of happiness!
