Happy Monday! Today is a special Monday here in New Orleans – it’s Lundi Gras! (That’s French for Fat Monday, which is the day before Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras). All that to tell you that it is Mardi Gras season, which is a visual feast! So rather than write a bunch of words, let me just show you what a parade looks like. These were from Endymion, which rolled on Saturday. The theme this year was The Opera.
I think Madame Butterfly was my favorite float of this parade. I spied her from several blocks away and she just about took my breath away! The work that goes into producing these rolling works of art is simply amazing. There are always new floats that follow the theme for the year, and then some traditional ones that appear year after year, such as Old Man River … they are all truly amazing.I generally love to watch and photograph, and am more likely to be found hiding from beads rather than trying to catch. But If catching beads is your thing, I’ll give you some sage advice from Steve. Always make eye contact with the float riders, then yell something better than “Hey, throw me something Mister!” His favorite lines … pickup lines, what else? “Hey Baby, it’s you and me, forever” “Hey baby, you must be a parking ticket because you’ve got FINE written all over you.” “Hey, baby, you’re so hot, you make the devil sweat!” Of course, none of these worked for him at an all men’s parade … but you get the idea. As he puts it, in the end … “it’s all about the relationship”! Good luck catching, and Happy Mardi Gras!
Thanks for hanging out and see ya next Monday,
